Looking back at the ‘90s alternative rock era, you can tell that 1994 was the peak year of it all. Everything looked and sounded grunge, and people just couldn’t get enough of the alt lifestyle. Of course, along came with that was the new level of height that alternative rock reached. Now in 2024, it’s been a crazy 30 years since then. Good news to the biggest fans of that era, 1994’s biggest alt-rock albums are getting together for a joint tour! It’s your chance to sing along to all the classics - LIVE.
Stone Temple Pilots’ sophomore album “Purple” was released in June of 1994. Meanwhile, breakout third LP “Throwing Copper” by +LIVE+ dropped in April. These two records are amongst the most iconic albums of that era. Purple sold a whopping six million copies in the US alone, while Throwing Copper sold eight - what a feat. Fast forward today, the two bands now have a a joint 30th-anniversary tour. To add the cherry on top, they will be joined by none other than ’90s alt-rockers Soul Asylum as the opening act.
For the joint tour, +LIVE+ and Stone Temple Pilots will take turns closing the show. And for the show in Toronto, Ontario, Stone Temple Pilots get the crown of being last to perform.
The current lineup of Stone Temple Pilots includies founding members Dean DeLeo on the guitar; Robert DeLeo on bass; and Eric Kretz on drums. Former X Factor competitor Jeff Gutt has been the frontman of the band since 2017, two years after the tragic death of Scott Weiland. Since joining the band, they’ve released two albums - 2018’s Stone Temple Pilots and 2020’s Perdida - with Gutt as the singer. However, they focus their live shows on their Nineties hits.
