Scoring his first #1 with "You've Got a Friend" a year later, it marked the start of his soft rock domination.

Selling over a hundred million records worldwide, with every album from 1977 to 2007 selling over a million copies, it's clear that fans can't get enough of his heartfelt masterpieces.

Discovered by Peter Asher, A&R for the Beatles' newly formed label Apple Records, the legendary Paul McCartney and George Harrison were the first people to hear his demos. "I just heard his voice and his guitar and I thought he was great ... and he came and played live, so it was just like, 'Wow, he's great," says McCartney.

Peter Asher soon became Taylor's business manager, and had a lot of great things to say about the artist. James had been through so much by the time he was twenty that he had so much to express in his music. Other young artists of his age whom I worked with sang about how good or bad life was but really had no idea what they were singing about. James was already singing with the conviction of a singer much older than himself. Everything that he had already been through was evident in his songwriting," says Asher.

Winning six Grammys and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his music stands as a testament to his passion and gift as an artist. For generations to come, "You've Got A Friend".
