Originally formed as a progressive rock band, Deep Purple shifted to a heavier sound over the 70s and had a colossal impact upon the history of modern music. Over a 40-year-plus career, they've sold over a hundred million albums across the world. With multiple lineup changes over the years, the band have retained a loyal fanbase and a position as one of the pioneering acts, alongside Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, of the roots of heavy metal as a genre. A poll on Planet Rock radio station ranked them among the “most influential bands ever”.

Alice Cooper, with a career of over 50 years, established a brand genre of rock in his youth, incorporating elements of horror films, garage rock, and vaudeville into his live performances to create a show specifically designed to shock audiences; today, he is known as “The Godfather Of Shock Rock”. The Sydney Morning Herald has called him the artist who "first introduced horror imagery to rock'n'roll, and whose stagecraft and showmanship have permanently transformed the genre".
