Since it’s initial release in 1972, ‘Smoke On The Water’ has become a classic rock anthem, still played, loved and rocked out to today – you cannot help but start swaying or joining in on the hook, ‘smoke on the water’, as the iconic guitar riff strums throughout the song. ‘Smoke On The Water’ has become the band’s signature song and is just one example of the influence and prowess of the British rockers.
‘Smoke On The Water’ is from their studio album, ‘Machine Head’ (1972), and despite the band’s previous releases, this was the one that thrust the band onto the world stage and showed everyone that these rockers were here to conquer and to stay. Now, for 2024 they are super stoked to be touring in the US and Canada and having an epic celebration of that 1972 release that changed rock music forever.
Yet, DP aren’t just some older rockers clinging to past rock glory, they are still releasing material and pushing themselves as musicians. Their most recent release, ‘Turning To Crime’ (released in November 2021) is their 22nd studio album and is composed of covers, such as Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Oh Well’, Cream’s ‘White Room’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘Watching The River Flow’. It is an album that pays tribute to the history of their music and influences that helped shape their music and journey, all with their edge, attitude and sound flexing the songs.
