Formed in 1991 in Berkeley, California, Counting Crows is an American alternative rock band comprising of Adam Duritz (lead vocals, piano), David Bryson(guitar), Charlie Gillingham (accordion, keyboards), Dan Vickrey (lead guitar), David Immerglück (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Jim Bogios (drums) and Millard Powers (bass). Originally an acoustic duo, Durlitz and Bryson began playing the bars and clubs of Berkeley and San Fransisco in the early '90s. By 1993, the duo had grown into a band and they were signed to Geffen Records that year. August and Everything After, Counting Crows' debut album, was released that September and its hit single “Mr Jones” lead to it being the fastest-selling album since Nirvana's Nevermind. The band have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and received a 2004 Academy Award nomination for their song "Accidentally in Love," which was included in the film Shrek 2.
