The rock group Counting Crows, nominated for an Academy Award and a Grammy, and Grammy-winning & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Carlos Santana have announced that they will be embarking on a joint summer tour called the Oneness Tour. Highlights of the tour will be Santana's passionate, high-energy performances of songs throughout their fifty-year career, including hits from Woodstock and Supernatural, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer. After three tremendously successful global tours, Counting Crows and Santana are back on the road together. Santana
Santana has won are eight Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards. The band, which was founded in 1966, was admitted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. The Grammy Hall of Fame has honored their albums Abraxas (1999) and the original Santana (2012). The Latin Grammy Hall of Fame inducted their hit song "Oye Como Va" (2001).
Following a line-up and musical direction shift in 1972, the band experimented with jazz fusion elements on the albums Caravanserai (1972), Welcome (1973), and Borboletta (1974). The band reached a new level of popularity with their 1999 album Supernatural, which included the songs "Maria Maria," featuring The Product G&B, and "Smooth," featuring singer Rob Thomas.
Through the decades the band has been performing, they have had difference recording and performing members with only Carlos Santana as the consistent member.
Counting Crows
The American rock band Counting Crows first came together in 1991. Counting Crows saw a meteoric rise in popularity after the 1993 release of August and Everything After. In the same year, the album "Mr. Jones" became a breakthrough hit single and went on to sell over 7 million copies in the US. In 1994, the band was nominated for two Grammy Awards: one for "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" (for the song "Round Here") and another for "Best New Artist."
Recovering the Satellites, the follow-up album, peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200 album list and topped other international charts. Their succeeding albums all peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200, with the exception of one.
"Mr. Jones" is only one of their well-known songs. A performance of "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell and additional hits including "A Long December," "Rain King," and "Hanginaround" are included.
In 2004, Counting Crows received an Academy Award nomination for the song "Accidentally in Love," which was featured in the movie Shrek 2. Known for their energetic live performances, the band has sold over 20 million CDs. The group is the eighth-best Adult Alternative Artist of all time according to Billboard.
