TWO DECADES OF SILENT ALARM

English rockers BLOC PARTY are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album “Silent Alarm.” Released in February 2005, the indie crowd soon discovered their rock-out-loud music — becoming a critically acclaimed record named Indie Album of the Year at the 2006 PLUG Awards. It also won the NME Album of the Year recognition, marking a great start to the band’s career. Riding high on momentum, the record paved the way for their continued dominance in the indie rock scene. 

Hailed for its fast tempo and passionate delivery, it showcased the band at their very best. In a rare interview cited by The Edge, Okereke wanted to emphasize amusement and pleasure in the everyday mundane, “those are the sort of things that can be incredibly touching.” A record borne out of “a nagging youthful urgency,” passion flows in every track.

ABOUT BLOC PARTY

Bloc Party is an English rock band formed in 1999 by Kele Okereke & Russell Lissack. The band found its big break when “She's Hearing Voices”, a demo was handed to BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and the acclaimed Alex Kapranos. Gaining exposure through magazines, newspapers, and a BBC Radio 1 performance, the band went full-throttle. Making music on their own terms, they even rejected a record deal from Parlophone and instead signed with an independent record label, owning full control of their music.

With styles described as indie rock, post-punk revival, alt-rock, dance-rock, art punk, post-Britpop, and so on, Bloc Party has always been known to incorporate several influences into one package.
