The Budweiser Stage history
The land on which the Budweiser Stage now stands was originally used for a venue called The Forum. This was also located in Ontario Place, hosting musical performances for crowds of up to 20,000. However, it was demolished in the mid-1990s.
The city of Toronto decided to build a newer, fresher, more cutting-edge venue to replace it. This was opened in May 1995 as the Molson Amphitheatre, with a show from Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams.
Quickly, the venue attracted famous performers. Bands like Rush, Van Halen, and the Sex Pistols immediately put the Molson Amphitheatre on the worldwide musical map, with millions of fans flocking to the arena over the coming years.
In 2010, the venue was renamed the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre. Recent times have seen superstars like Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and The Weeknd perform in Toronto. Then, in 2017, it was renamed again to the Budweiser Stage, due to corporate sponsorship. It is now operated, in part, by global leaders Live Nation.
