It's the "Same Old Song", but different... Serving up their "most raw and personal collection" of songs to date, The Lumineers' new album "Automatic" packs a punch with the band's signature indie-folk energies. Taking it to the next level, Fraites told NME that there's "a palpable sense of connection between Wes and me... There’s lots of love on this record." An album made for this new era, it was only recorded in less than a month, and fans are living for it. "People who think they have our number, they’ll be surprised," Fraites said.
It's an album that takes everyone back to the reason why we all fell in love with The Lumineers in the first place. An official description of the record shares the band's "shadowy themes wrapped in upbeat, infectious melodies, sky-high choruses destined to be sung by tens of thousands each night on the road."
Well, that pretty much sums up their live shows. Known to produce an avalanche of energy among the crowd, their intensified performances of familiar hits send everyone into a concert high. With anthemic melodies filling the air, crowds can't help but rock it all out.
In a conversation with The Colorado Sound, Schultz reveals that this album was made without much editing & rehearsals. It's pure jamming in the studio and putting out the new record. "It’s really honest. It’s kind of like what we did in our first record in the sense of it just sounds really innocent," he said. In the middle of life's extremes of boredom and overstimulation, the band's new music aims to address the need to numb down these feelings. It's music that "reminds us of how to feel, like really feel emotion and feel things."
In the early 2000s, Schultz and Fraites began collaborating - writing music and playing gigs around New York. With a slew of monikers before they settled with "The Lumineers", the story behind the name actually seemed to be an accidental move of fate. They penned the name when a club emcee mistakenly called them "Lumineers". The name stuck around and soon became synonymous with the best folk bangers the world has heard.
Scoring a record deal in Denver in 2009, brighter days were ahead of the band. Dropping their self-titled debut LP in 2012, they found their big break with "Ho Hey", a single that hit #3 on the Hot 100, bagging a 3x Platinum certification from the RIAA. Their succeeding hits "Stubborn Love", "Ophelia", "Sleep on the Floor", "Angela", "Gloria", "A.M. Radio", "Brightside", and "Cleopatra" further made them a staple indie-folk favorite.
With tracks that resonate with every heart, Fraites shares that the band's style is a pretty simple affair - "we're not reinventing the wheel or doing anything that different, the songs are super simple," he told The Crimson White, explaining how it's cinematic aspect to their songs that make it very attractive.
With a new album taking everyone back to the very core of The Lumineers, it's a welcome surprise to see the band executing greatness with simplicity. On The Automatic World Tour, get ready for bangin' performances of their hits. Don't miss out by booking your tickets now!
