Performing the "Same Old Song" once again, The Lumineers are hyping things up with a massive tour this year. Taking The Automatic World Tour to North America, they're holding back-to-back nights in Toronto at Budweiser Stage.
With a new album that's their "most raw and personal collection" of songs to date, "Automatic" shares the same 'ol simple vibes of their first releases. Packing a punch with indie-folk goodies, The Lumineers have switched gears in homage to the sound that won all of our hearts. Celebrating twenty years of writing music together, Fraites told NME that there's "a palpable sense of connection between Wes and me... There’s lots of love on this record." Made for the new era, it's an LP that they simply jammed to in the studio. Recorded in less than a month, the duo definitely amazes with music that hits hard in its purest form.
"People who think they have our number, they’ll be surprised," Fraites said.
An official release shares that the band's "shadowy themes wrapped in upbeat, infectious melodies, sky-high choruses destined to be sung by tens of thousands each night on the road," shines through in every song. Well, this definitely sums up what defines a Lumineers experience. Simply written with jam-worthy chord progressions & choruses, it's the way they elevate the live experience that get's everyone hooked.
In an interview with The Colorado Sound, Schultz shares that "Automatic" was produced without much editing and rehearsal sessions. Heck, it was fully recorded in less than a month. Jamming sessions in the studio, "It’s really honest. It’s kind of like what we did in our first record in the sense of it just sounds really innocent." Through boredom and overstimulation, they explore life in a deeper level. It all points to music that "reminds us of how to feel, like really feel emotion and feel things."
Writing music and playing gigs around New York City, Schultz and Fraites were frequent collaborators in the early 2000s, going by different stage names. One day, a club emcee mistakenly called them "Lumineers", and the name stuck around. What seemed to be an accidental gig became a defining moment for the band - whose name will soon be synonymous with indie-folk bangers.
Moving to Denver in 2009, they signed a record deal and eventually released their self-titled debut LP in 2012. Years of honing their music through various gigs, their hard work paid off. Their debut single "Ho Hey" became a resounding hit, hitting #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, scoring a 3x Platinum certification from the RIAA. The album sold over 1.7 million copies in the US, bagging a 3x Platinum certification.
With high momentum, the band's succeeding releases were met with massive acclaim, and their fanbase quickly multiplied. Their hard-hitters include "Stubborn Love", "Ophelia", "Sleep on the Floor", "Angela", "Gloria", "A.M. Radio", "Brightside", and "Cleopatra".
Their secret? "We're not reinventing the wheel or doing anything that different, the songs are super simple," Fraites told The Crimson White. Amused by the cinematic flair they put into their art, simplicity seems to be the key to putting out infectious folk hits.
With a new album that stays true to their core, get ready to witness the band's unique groove take over the Budweiser Stage on September 8th. Don't miss out by booking your tickets now!
